Mom’s Christmas Blanket

It seems like each Christmas I turn to Knit Collage for some, if not all, of my gift knitting. Their yarns are chunky, which makes for quick knitting, but they are also quite luxurious–a perfect combo for Christmas.

When I asked my mom what she’d like me to knit for her this Christmas (because I knit her something extra special every single Christmas), she requested a blanket. After a little research I came up with the Free Flow Blanket, a gorgeous two-color throw by Cheryl Kubat for Knit Collage. I showed it to my mom, and it was an instant sell. The blanket uses both the Spun Cloud yarn and Pixie Dust Yarn by Knit Collage, and my mom went with the colorways Twig (above left) and Antique Garnet (above right). The Free Flow Blanket pattern can be purchased here.

This blanket is knit on whopping size 36 needles, so my arms got a good workout with this project. My needles are a delightfully sparkly pair by Addi that just happened to coordinate nicely with the sparkly yarns.

My cats are not immune to soft downy bedding–far from it, in fact–so I had to guard my Free Flow WIP closely lest I turn my back to find one of them fluffing the chunky wool, which is no good of course. Here Bones is only napping, so I allowed it this time.

Alas the days leading to Christmas were cloudy here, so I had to settle for a moody shot of the finished object. It’s a surprisingly large throw and turned out spectacularly. My mom’s home decor includes a lot of red, so methinks this Christmas blanket will be on display year round.
